Technologies and approaches: courses, conferences and training

At Wellcome Connecting Science we bring together researchers, clinical scientists, and healthcare professionals across a wide range of biomedical fields, to explore the latest genomics and bioinformatics knowledge, research, tools and technologies, tailored to your area or specialism.

Our hybrid conferences typically attract between 80-250 global delegates, and our courses provide hands-on training for up to 30 participants at a time, across the world. These friendly and focused settings create exceptional opportunities to network with peers and leading experts, fostering a rich environment for both learning and collaboration. Our programme is designed to be suitable for all career stages, ensuring that whether you are an early career researcher or a principal investigator, there is something of value for everyone.

Our conferences bring together scientists from across the globe for discussion, networking, and knowledge sharing

Our learning and training covers many fields in the genomics space including:

  • Microbiology
  • Pathogen surveillance
  • Fungal pathogens
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Mitochondrial medicine
  • CRISPR gene editing
  • Immunology
  • Microbiology
  • Pathogen surveillance
  • Fungal pathogens
  • Antimicrobial resistance
  • Cancer ecology
  • Epigenetics
  • Rare diseases
  • Viral genomics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Computational molecular evolution

Plus, we explore the application of clinical genomics and the impact of scientific policy in a healthcare context.

Underpinning all our priority areas are the cutting-edge genomics tools and approaches that drive significant improvements across a wide variety of fields. Technological capacity is fundamental for enhancing the efficacy and global representation of genetic datasets, accelerating advances in personalised medicine, and strengthening infectious disease surveillance.

We provide a wide range of hands-on training opportunities. Here participants are learning how to load a MinION sequencing machine.

We bring together researchers and clinical scientists from across the world, to exchange knowledge on the best practice application of genomics technologies, bioinformatics and computational approaches.

This includes:

  • CRISPR gene editing
  • Next generation sequencing (NGS)
  • Whole genome sequencing (GWAS)
  • Epigenetics/ epigenomics
  • Transcriptomics
  • Proteomics
  • Metabolomics
  • Genomic Imprinting
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning

Join us to discover more, and showcase your own insights into the latest cross-disciplinary tools available to biomedical researchers and clinical scientists.

We invite conference delegates to present short talks, scientific posters, and poster pitches.

Our series of conferences and courses focused on technologies and approaches, foster discussion and debate at the cutting-edge of biomedical research, aiming to bridge gaps between discovery science and public health.

There are plenty of opportunities to develop new skills to accelerate your research, establish collaborations through face-to-face networking, and discover platforms to present and develop your own research.

Bursaries for conferences (Wellcome Genome Campus, UK)

Connecting Science offers registration bursaries to any scientist facing financial barriers to attending research meetings. Our bursary scheme offers up to 50% off the full registration fee, enabling you to participate in the latest genomics discussion and knowledge exchange, without worrying about the cost.

To apply for a bursary to attend a conference, please see the ‘Financial Assistance’ section on the conference information page.

We strongly encourage abstract submissions from bursary applicants before the bursary deadline, as our meetings are excellent opportunities to build your research profile, gain valuable feedback, and forge cross-disciplinary relationships with global peers and leaders. Final edits can be made up until the abstract deadline.

We invite experts from across the globe to speak on the latest genomics advances relevant to a specific field.

Bursaries for courses (Wellcome Genome Campus, UK)

We also offer bursaries to course applicants facing financial barriers to accessing training opportunities. These also cover up to 50% of the full course fee, and they are awarded on academic merit to eligible applicants.

Please view the ‘Cost and bursaries’ information on individual event pages for more details. Unfortunately we cannot provide assistance for travel expenses for our UK courses.
