World Congress on Genetic Counselling

25–27 October 2023

Hinxton Hall Conference Centre, Wellcome Genome Campus, UK

Exploring the impact of genetic counsellors on research

Summary

Genetic counsellors bring a unique blend of knowledge and skills to the research setting. Their involvement enriches the process from study design and participant engagement, through to analysis and the dissemination of findings.

The fourth World Congress on Genetic Counselling will provide a forum to explore the way in which genetic counsellors are contributing to empirical research, both within traditional genetic counselling settings and beyond.

Join a multidisciplinary community of clinicians (working across genetic counselling, nursing, medical genetics, and/or the application of genetic technology in their practice), and academics (working across social sciences, psychology, ethics, and genetic counselling research), to connect, share knowledge, and find potential collaborators to support your work.

The programme will focus on the importance of trust in genetic counselling practice, and how this intersects with governance and participation in research. Discover the vital role research finding play in shaping service development policies, and the optimisation of genetic counselling services. Sessions will also explore how participatory research approaches can enhance the relevance, validity and impact of research findings.

Gain insights in to ‘what’s new’ in personalised medicine, and how these new areas of practice are shaping the landscape of genetic counselling to improve patient care, as well as facilitating the application of genetic counselling principles to impact broader research domains.

Register for an opportunity to enhance your professional development, expand your network, and gain valuable insights into the evolving landscape of genetic counselling practice and research.

Programme

Discussions will focus on a variety of interesting topics, including:

  • Big data; trust, governance and participation
  • Informing service development policies
  • Research participants, patients and genetic counsellors working together
  • What’s new in personalised medicine
  • Applying our disciplinary lens to research beyond genetic counselling process and outcomes
  • Mind the gap: What’s missing in global genetic counselling research?
