Bioinformática Decodificada: A Jornada do Iniciante à Genômica de Patógenos
30 October–1 November 2023
Salvador, Brazil
Decodified Bioinformatics: the beginner’s journey into pathogen genomics
Summary
Background:
In collaboration with Instituto Gonçalo Moniz, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, we are pleased to announce: Bioinformática Decodificada: A Jornada do Iniciante à Genômica de Patógenos (Decodified Bioinformatics: the beginner’s journey into pathogen genomics).
Bioinformatics is an intersection between biology, computer science and statistics. This course will cover the first steps to learning basic bioinformatics with examples relevant to the analysis of pathogen genomes. The importance of statistics in bioinformatics is emphasized throughout the course, preparing students to understand the logic of the programming language and interpret the data obtained. In addition, we will discuss the importance of data quality in achieving meaningful results.
This course emphasizes the importance of critical thinking, encouraging a deeper understanding of command lines and critical thinking in choosing tools for data analysis. We will also discuss troubleshooting techniques, focusing on understanding the “whys” instead of just reproducing methodologies.
Location:
Auditório Aluízio Prata.
Instituto Gonçalo Moniz – IGM, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz – FIOCRUZ.
