Building AI Skills for Research

Summary

This course equips researchers and educators with practical AI skills for research and teaching through hands-on activities based on the Google DeepMind AI Research Foundations curriculum.

Participants will explore core AI concepts, discover AI tools for science such as AlphaGenome, and learn how to use Google Antigravity to support research workflows. They will also take part in a train-the-trainer programme, gaining the knowledge and teaching skills needed to deliver the curriculum at their own institutions.

Who should attend this workshop?

Learning outcomes

What will you achieve?

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain and apply core AI concepts from Google DeepMind’s AI Research Foundations curriculum in research, teaching, and institutional training contexts.
  • Use AI tools and workflows such as AlphaGenome and Google Antigravity to support coding, analysis, planning, collaborative problem-solving, and research project development.
  • Adapt and deliver AI training locally by using train-the-trainer methods to teach the curriculum at their own institutions and contribute to a regional community of AI educators across Asia.

Programme

The three-day programme combines professional development, strategic planning and community engagement activities. Sessions will cover:

  • Google DeepMind’s AI Research Foundations curriculum
  • Tools such as AlphaGenome and Google Antigravity for agent-assisted coding, analysis, planning, and workflow support
  • Project development and collaborative problem-solving exercises.
  • Networking activities designed to strengthen connections between participants across Asia.
  • A dedicated train-the-trainer component will prepare participants to adapt and deliver the curriculum within their own institutions, helping build sustainable local AI training capacity
